Weekly Round Up - Chinese Retail

This retail review includes data gathered from key retailers in China including AEON, Walmart, Vanguard, RT Mart, WuMart, Pagada, 7 Fresh, and HeMa.

Apple

Apple pricing at the retail level increased this week in China and was between ¥44.00 - ¥56.00 (1kg), however the average pricing is being lifted due to imported goods which account for 80% of our collected data for the week. When focusing on say Fuji which is dominated by China pricing comes considerably lower at ¥23.00 - ¥24.00 (1kg). View Market Apple varieties in various retailers.

Avocado

5 weeks ago avocado pricing at the wholesale level was considerably lower than it is today, and this fact can be seen at the retail price level too. Currently Peruvian hass can be purchased for an average value of ¥60.00 (1kg) and this is compared to between ¥45.00 - ¥55.00 during weeks 25 - 35. View Market Avocado Retail Pricing

Blueberry

In the berry segment blueberries are accounting for 63% of the data which has been collected over the past three weeks, followed by Raspberry and Blackberry at 20% and 17% respectively. Year-on-year blueberry is pricing at ¥14.62 (125g) currently compared to over ¥20.00 (125g) the same week last year. This mirrors what is seen at the wholesale level where the market is rather challenging. View Market Image

Grape

The market at wholesale level is entirely dominated by Chinese produce and this is exactly what is visible in retail. The displays are absolutely beautiful and give energy, in sharp contrast to the punnets in European shelves. Retail pricing has lifted this week to average ¥37.90 (1kg) compared to what appears to be the low of the season in weeks 29 - 39 where pricing was between ¥23.00 - ¥29.00 (1kg). Citrus

The overall citrus market is rather challenging, the only exceptions to this rule is grapefruit and of course lemons. Wholesale pricing for oranges pulled downward this week, while a rather similar situation occurred for soft-citrus out of South Africa and Australia. At the retail level orange pricing sits at an average value of ¥26.00 (1kg) which is between the ¥20.00 - ¥30.00 range we have seen since week 19 onward. While soft-citrus sits at around ¥29.81 (1kg) which is lower than last season by -6%. It should be noted that on the higher side we see ¥40.00 (1kg) and on the more economic side ¥25.00 (1kg). soft citrus pricing Australian Honey Murcott
